Maybe I've overlooked something, but I remember reading in February that the EPA had dropped the oxygenate requirement for gasoline in non-attainment areas. This grants refiners more flexibility in formulating gasoline, and if ethanol is scarce, there are other ways to achieve cleaner-burning fuels.

"What I don't understand is the timing of all the publicity regarding more ethanol pumps at gas stations and for flex fueled vehicles"

I think it is timed to try to rally the forces of corporate greenwashing before the fall election.

Voters are feeling the gas pump pain and frightened about global climate change, storms, droughts, fires.

As with the bushco con job that had 80% of the US (including congress and even bush himself)believing that Saddam was behind 9/11 before the ill-fated invasion, now the administration and it's corporate friends are trying to greenwash 80% of the voters into believing heavy subsidies to Archer Daniels Midland, and their ilk, will head off global climate disaster and drop fuel prices under $2 per gallon.

Wheeeee! Fantasies are FUN! Hehehey.

Also GM and Ford are trying to use flex fuel vehicle greenwashing to take our eyes off the mileage standards ball until they get ALL their factories moved to China.

Then it's chapter 11. Good luck with the bankruptcy terms, GM and Ford pension holders. Maybe you all can hire a chinese collection agency?

"As with the bushco con job that had 80% of the US (including congress and even bush himself)believing that Saddam was behind 9/11 before the ill-fated invasion,.."

Sophisticated Liberals can tie Bush-bashing to everything! I humble myself before your brilliance.

"now the administration and it's corporate friends are trying to greenwash 80% of the voters into believing heavy subsidies to Archer Daniels Midland, and their ilk, will head off global climate disaster and drop fuel prices under $2 per gallon."

I am surprised to learn moonbat Senator Tom Harkin, one of ADM's best pals, is a Bushie.

Amazingdrx is an idiot.

Not if I can help it. I have been writing a lot of articles against grain ethanol, dissecting claims of the ethanol lobby in great detail. Last year, I testified against grain ethanol at the state legislature. What I have found the most disgusting is the pseudoscience that the USDA has engaged in on this issue.
