Today Daystar Technologies, producer of silicon-free CIGS thin film solar cells, announced they were progressing well over the past few months in meeting their goals on two contracts they have received this year. The most significant contract is to deliver 30 MW of product to Blitzstrom, GmbH by 2008, previous post. They have begun shipping productions samples of the ordered products. They are continuing to fine tune their 2-2.5 MW Gen II production line. According to Dr. John Tuttle, Chairman and CEO, "Our technology readiness level in Gen-II is rapidly approaching production status,' and we are pleased with our progress in this challenging endeavor."
"Concurrently, DayStar is continuing to add resources and make steady progress towards technology readiness for our Gen-III fully-continuous manufacturing platform. We are in the midst of a detailed design and planning process that will culminate in our Gen-III roadmap, from which we can better estimate our capital needs and the resulting cash-flow. We anticipate it will take approximately 18-24 months to achieve production capacity in the range of 25-100 MW/yr."
They also have raised the capital necessary for the modifications to their Gen II line and development of the Gen III design. They will have to raise additional capital for implementation of the Gen III production line.
They also pointed out that they had a window of opportunity while there was "a serious pinch in the supply of raw Si feedstock."
