Welcome to The Energy Blog
Energy is a subject that has created a lot of attention lately, especially regarding the price of petroleum products. This blog is intended to help both you and the writer have a greater understanding of the causes and possible results of the oil shortage that is inevitable. I have dubbed this period while we are reaching maximum production of oil and transitioning to alternate energy sources as "The Energy Revolution".
As an engineer who spent his career working with both government and private clients in fields that were all affected by energy costs, I started off this quest having a familiarity with the technology. I have spent nearly three months researching the subject and feel that I now have a good understanding of some of the causes and potential remedies of the pending oil shortage. However the more I dig into the subject the more I find that I don't know. I hope by publishing this blog I will get some constructive feedback that will help all of us understand the revolution better.
The sum of my posts will be more like a book than most blogs, with the posts being chapters or sub-chapters of the book. This means that the frequency of posts will be on the order of once or twice a week, because of the large amount of research that still has to be done on at least 10 major categories that I wish to cover.
I will also post some more personal commentaries, like this one, in which I comment on your input and give a little background on how I reached some conclusions that I have included in my more formal posts. I am currently trying to form an opinion as to when peak oil will occur. There are definitely two camps on this subject and reaching an objective conclusion is a difficult task. I will share with you in a commentary some of the considerations I made in zeroing in on this date.
The next few posts will consist of an overview of the causes and effects of the energy revolution, an itemized list of the elements of an energy policy required to minimize the adverse effects of the energy revolution and an introduction to the technologies that are needed to replace conventional oil as our major source of energy for transportation vehicles. This will be followed by more detailed posts on the individual technologies. Again I solicit your feedback and hope that this blog will be as interesting and informative to you as it is to me.
